The history of the Newcastle Jets FC is inseparable from the history of football in the Hunter Region. The environment in which football was established in Newcastle and the Hunter, with all its triumphs and failures, has created a proud history, a foundation and a legacy upon which the club has been created.

The Newcastle Knights are an Australian professional Rugby League Football Club based in Newcastle, New South Wales. They compete in Australasia’s premier rugby league competition, the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership. Playing in red and blue, the Knights joined the top tier competition in 1988, 79 years after the previous Newcastle based team, the Newcastle Rebels had departed the Sydney competition with the formation of a separate league competition based in the Newcastle region.

The Hunter Sports Group sponsor both the Men's and Women's surfing events at Newcastle's Surfest, one of the longest running and largest festivals of competitive surfing in the world. The HSG worked with Surfest to ensure the best surfers compete in the dual ASP 6-Star 12 day event at Merewether Beach.

The Hunter Sports Group won the Major Festivals and Events category in the Hunter and Central Coast Tourism Awards 2011. The Qantas Challenge, which saw the Newcastle Jets host international superstar, David Beckham and the LA Galaxy for an exhibition match, was recognised for its international profile and the positive economic impact on the region’s tourism industry.

The Hunter Sports Group has a proud history of community support and engagement, in particular through its sporting clubs, the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Jets.  As a not-for-profit organisation, we aim to give back as much as we can to our region, and to use sport to help and encourage those who need it most.

Newcastle Jets now proudly play in the blue and red of Newcastle making the teams of the Hunter Sports Group instantly recognisable wherever they play.
